The Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn., will be humming November 10-12, 2006 with the ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics 15th Annual Conference. It will be a gala event, as the Council celebrates another milestone -- the 10th Anniversary of chiropractic’s first Diplomates in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (DICCPs). A dynamic educational program around the theme, “Creating the Passion,” will be presented during the three-day weekend with extraordinary speakers and topics from scoliosis correction, functional nutrition for autistic children, apnea and prematurity, biomechanics of pregnancy, back pain in children, to a new approach in learning disabilities and much, much more. Professional papers and case studies, always an important segment of this conference will be presented by eight DICCPs.

The keynote speaker for the conference is David Kirby, author of the New York Times best-seller, Evidence of Harm: Mercury in Vaccines and the Autism Epidemic, A Medical Controversy. Mr. Kirby will explore the potential link between autism and vaccines and the possibility that a vaccine additive may be fueling the dramatic increase in autism, ADD, speech delay and other disorder in America’s children. The issue of autism and vaccines has created considerable controversy among parents, the medical community, drug manufacturers and even in the Halls of Congress. Mr Kirby will present all sides including his own research on the issue.

Dr. Maxine McMullen, internationally recognized as one of the “pioneers” of chiropractic pediatrics will open the conference Friday morning with her innate wisdom on chiropractic care for infants and kids. As a professor in pediatrics and a practitioner for more than 25 years she has taught thousands of doctors of chiropractic in practice today how to provide chiropractic care to infants and children. Her passionate belief that every child benefits from chiropractic care has inspired many DCs to include pediatrics in their practices..

Other excellent speakers on this multi-faceted program are Dr. Dennis Woggon (Minnesota), Dr. Peter Fysh (California), Dr. Joan Fallon (New York), Dr. Lora Tanis (New Jersey), Dr. Laura Hanson (Georgia), Dr. John Furlong (Connecticut), Dr. Sharon Vallone (Connecticut), Dr. Carol Phillips (Maryland) and Dr. Robin Pauc (United Kingdom) All the speakers are experienced practitioners with expertise in pediatric care.

The 10th Anniversary of the inaugural group of Diplomates in Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics (DICCPs) will be celebrated at a special luncheon on Saturday. The ICA Pediatrics Council was the first organization to realize the importance of postgraduate education in pediatrics and develop a three-year program leading to a board certified credential. The DICCP program, a 30-module, 3–year program is administered by an accredited chiropractic college --Palmer College in the US and New Zealand Chiropractic College in New Zealand/Australia.

“We are very proud of this inaugural group of DICCPs,” said Dr. Maxine McMullen, one of the original developers of the program. “Not only were they the “guinea pigs” for this program but they have proven over and over again that their 3-year postgraduate education was worth the time and the hard work.

They are confident, caring and committed.”

“We invite everyone to share with us a glorious weekend in Nashville,” said Pediatrics Council Chair Dr. Lora Tanis. “As one of that inaugural group of Diplomates, I have been attending these conferences for more than a decade, but I still learn something new every year. I invite all chiropractic family practitioners and their staff to come and listen to David Kirby and the other speakers. I guarantee you will find the weekend educational and practical; plus you will enjoy the high energy and camaraderie that this conference always generates.”
